Milestones and temperatures rising

I meant to post this a week ago, just cause it pleased me. I saw my speedometer as it came up 067777. I clearly missed the more spectacular 066666, ah well!

It's been hot around here. Sunday, we had relatives over and went out to dinner. It was 97 degrees at 5:30 at night. Wow. I know people in other states think California is hot all the time, which isn't true, particularly in Northern California. LA and San Diego are warmer, but even they don't have that kind of heat often. (I once was editing a story for an author. She'd written that it was 105 degrees in Bay City. I commented that maybe she should have had Starsky or Hutch mention that there was a heat wave earlier in the story, and she answered that she thought it was always that hot there. No, we aren't Phoenix, Arizona.) The one thing we do not have is much humidity. It's a really dry heat which I do prefer to that wringing wet air back east. Inside my house was stifling that night--and we don't have air conditioning. By contrast, my cousin texted that when she and her husband drove across the Golden Gate Bridge at 7pm, it was 63 degrees! That San Francisco fog.

Monday, it was only 85 degrees at 5:30 in the evening when Demelza and I took a walk. And every day has been just slightly cooler, luckily.

I bought a refrigerator! I have only needed a new one for like three years because it leaks water in the back. I keep a bowl for the water and pour it in the plant pots. I'd had this impression that a fridge would be like 900 dollars, but my sister found several, one nearly identical to my old one, for 5 hundred. I hate decorating, upgrading appliances, etc, so my sister has taken me under her wing. good thing.

Started radiation treatments yesterday--boring and no side effects (which apparently don't show up until week two or three.) So, I went to my favorite new bakery to buy a whoopie pie cookie. YUM. Two chocolate cookies with icing between. I've been to this place twice in one week.

I caught up with Wynonna Earp finally, and now actually have to wait for episodes to air. ACK. In this era of watching what we want, when we want, it's strange to have to be patient. I love me some Waverly Earp, in particular. The actress is really British, but does a fine American accent. Recently, she was supposed to be undercover and used a Brit accent, which I adore. Her girlfriend commented that it was the worst British accent she'd ever heard and I wondered if that is really what she sounds like normally? lol

Loving Genius about Einstein, particularly the actress who plays his first wife Mileva.

Orphan Black, or (as Entertainment Magazine wrote) the Tatiana Maslany hour, is back. YAY. I even stayed up until 11pm, something I hadn't done in two months, to watch OB when it aired last Saturday. Tat played 6 of the 7 current clones in the same ep. She is so amazing, and I wondered how much time she had to be in wardrobe and makeup that week. I did have issues with Rachel's blond hair--in one scene, I swear the wig she was wearing was completely different than the wig (which looked far more like she usually has) in the following scene. Which made it all the more funny that Sarah had a really bad blond wig covering her dark curls when pretending to be Rachel later. and if you don't watch the series, you have no idea what that means!

First - Virtual hug - I hope the radiation treatments are successful, but also that your side effects are minimal.
Here in Portland we will feel the heat this weekend (95 on Sat!) and I'll probably imitate my cat by napping through the afternoon. Ah, retirement.
Waiting for new episodes - I felt the same way about the final Samurai Jacks. Then I got caught up in the - nostalgia? - of anticipation, (something I hadn't really felt since they announced Star Trek 2 was going to have Montalban back) and kind of enjoyed teasing myself with what-ifs and maybes. I haven't watched OB, but I think I'll give it a try. The idea of a performer carrying 6 separate characters in one episode intrigues me, is this a common theme?
Take care for yourself.

Uhhh - I think you meant odometer? If your speedometer 67,777, you just bested Scotty for changing the laws of physics :)

For me, it's being a mechanic's kid. Speedometer is for speed of tires (kilometers or miles per hour) and odometer is for distance traveled by tires (forward motion only). Our road games included 'what's wrong with that engine?' and at night 'name that make/model by the headlights or engine sound'.
